Mommy musings

Brunch and Pamper Day with MWB

Realization 1: Working at home is tough. Realization 2: working at home without a yaya or house help is tougher. Being able to look after my kids 24/7 is priceless. It also gave me another realization that a WAHM may have the tendency to forget to take a rest day/ day off. I personally experienced feeling too tired and too frustrated of being both a mom and a cookie designer that I wanted to quit. So I asked my husband to give me a few hours a week to myself so I can reset, recharge, relax.

Once a week, I spend a few hours to do what I want to do whether it’s spending time with friends or by myself. It’s my reset day. My me time. My rest day. So when my dear friends Mish and Sab invited me for brunch on a weekday, I immediately said yes.

Mish and Sab, for those who don’t know them, are the fabulous duo behind Mothers Who Brunch. They love inviting friends old and new to join them for brunch and a few fun activities.

Last Thursday I, along with other beautiful ladies, were treated to a delicious brunch at 81 Cafe and Bistro and some pampering by Orly at Coco Nails Studio .

81 Cafe and Bistro is a spacious and bright restaurant in Madison Galleries. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was perfect for taking Instagram-worthy pictures because of all the natural light and pleasant interior that is both homey and modern. The restaurant is owned by Eric Nubla who personally curated the menu that is reminiscent of the food he grew up with. His passion for cooking and love for quality taste and flavor brought about a deliciously diverse menu.

We tried several dishes that were personally picked by Eric for us to try:

Who wouldn’t want to start a meal with a cheese platter?
81 Cafe and Bistro’s Gambas
The sisig was crunchy, like how I like it, and flavorful. Will definitely order this again when I return
Adobong Puti
Vegetarian Lasagna
Baby back ribs
Spinach Ravioli
What a spread! And check out those lovely flowers from Flowers by Yumi

When I checked the menu, I was very happy to see the variety of food they offer. There is something for every member of my family of picky eaters. There are Filipino, Spanish, American and Italian dishes. It’s also great to know that they provide healthy alternatives for vegetarians using fresh, organic ingredients without MSG. I can just imagine what our family will order with sinigang, rice, ribs, pasta and mozzarella sticks on the table.

The MWB ladies also showed us how to make a Frose (frozen Rose). That was perfect for the hot weather we have in this country. Oh and can I just say, this was my first ever alcoholic drink after three years. Thanks, Mish and Sab! LOL

A bottle of good Rose, some ice and lemon-infused simple syrup is all you need to make this refreshing drink.

After the hearty brunch, we were treated to some pampering at Coco Nail Studio.

Orly introduced their newest product, Orly Breathable. It is a colored treatment for the nails with 19 pretty shades. No need to worry of having bare nails while letting them “rest” from regular or gel polish. I also like that you only need to put on 2 coats on clean bare nails, no need for a topcoat, and wait for 15 minutes to have pretty, “breathing” nails. Perfect for moms who are always busy.

Thanks again, Mish and Sab, for a much needed break and catch up with you and the other mommies!
