Marcus’ Baptism: Shrine of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life

mbaptism6

We chose the Shrine of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life near MOA for Marcus’ baptism. This is the second time we chose the church for our child. Our reason for the first time was that it was the only church nearest to our area that baptizes non-parishioners without asking for a parish permit. It was the same reason this time but the Shrine of Jesus is already asking for a parish permit. Good thing our parish was understanding enough to grant us a permit without too much inquiry.

Aside from the parish permit (if you are not a parishioner), the parish office will ask for the child’s birth certificate and a fee of Php 2,500 and additional Php 100 for each godparent. The godparentswill not be required to attend a seminar. Once the fee and requirements are settled, you will receive a baptism kit which includes copies of the Rites to Baptism, candles and the white garment.

The Baptistry is very spacious and dimly lit to add to the solemnity of the ceremony. Based on our experience with Lucas’ baptism, only parents, godparents, and official photographers are allowed inside the baptistry so we did not invite the other guests to join us in the ceremony anymore. They just proceeded to the reception. Since there were only a couple of us there, the assistant allowed my mom, uncle, and cousin to stay inside the baptistry.

The ceremony went pretty well. The littlest boy was well-behaved. He didn’t even cry when the priest poured water on his head. He did cry a little when we placed the white garment on him.

After the ceremony, we were allowed to take a couple of pictures but we had to do it fast because the next baby to be baptized was already outside.

It was a good, solemn experience as before and we really appreciate the church, the priest’s message and the consideration given to us.

Additional tips:

  • You can bring your own candles. I decorated ours and used those instead of the ones given to us
  • Tell your official photographers to be there early so they can adjust their lighting well. As you can see from our photos, the room is a little dim so they may need to adjust their camera settings for better output.
  • They allow other guests to come inside the bapistry but only after the ceremony for a photo op. You will only be given a few minutes to take photos.
